An expert delegation from the École Française d'Extrême-Orient (French Institute of the Far East), the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology and the Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on April 9th, started an archaeological survey and excavation of the ancient stone citadel in a mountainous area in Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh Province.

An expert delegation from the École Française d'Extrême-Orient (French Institute of the Far East), the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology and the Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on April 9 th , started an archaeological survey and excavation of the ancient stone citadel in a mountainous area in Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh Province.

The ancient citadel, found in 1993 by Ho Bach Khoa and a group of archaeologists in Ha Tinh Province, was revealed by the Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in June, 2011.

The 1-km long citadel was built with stones of different sizes. The widest part is 2m and the narrowest is 1.2m.

Through the study, the delegation came to the conclusion that the ancient citadel is part of a 30-km long ancient citadel network of the Lam Ap Kingdom, built in the Dai Viet-Champa time in Ngu Son Village, Xuan So Canton (now Ky Lac Commune, Ky Anh District), to defend the border area.

According to Mr. Khoa, acting Head of the Nguyen Du Relic Area, after completing the survey and excavation from April 9 th to 15 th , the Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will compile a scientific dossier on the citadel to submit to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for further studying the citadel network to preserve cultural and historical values as well as to attract Vietnamese and international visitors.
