Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium Pham Sanh Chau and other outstanding individuals have received the Knight of Tournai title for their active contribution to promoting the city’s image.
Ambassador Chau was acknowledged to be the first person to link the Belgian city with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) through the visit of the bloc’s ministers to Tournai last September.
The cultural event was part of the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC) activities chaired by Vietnam in 2011.
The conferring ceremony has been held in the city’s Town Hall and the Knights will then become its honorable ambassadors.
Since 1953, more than 400 prominent people, including ambassadors, ministers, mayors and artists, have been granted the noble title.
