Nhan Dan – A variety of activities have been held across the country to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam Youth Federation (October 15).
Over the past month, the Vietnam Youth Federation Central Committee and youth associations at all levels have been involved in many practical activities under the theme 'Youth Action for Social Security' including providing free health check-ups and medicine for 2,000 needy people in Quang Luu and Quang Nham communes, Thieu Hoa and Quang Xuong districts, Thanh Hoa province, and co-ordinating with the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group to build 62 IT classrooms and award 325 scholarships to students from remote areas and ethnic minority students in the country’s 62 poorest districts.
The Vietnam Youth Federation Central Committee also presented the 'When the Country Needs' awards to ten collectives and individuals promoting outstanding initiatives that have made significant contributions to society.
* Yesterday, on October 12, the Youth Union of the Central Enterprises held the 2nd Innovative Software Awards ceremony. The first prize went to 'VCB iB@nking' software created by the Youth Union at the Centre for Information Technology under the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank). The software has proven to be very efficient and is being widely used throughout the Vietcombank banking system. This year's competition drew the participation of 57 contestants who produced 22 software applications for communications, finance, engineering, and information management...
* The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee also introduced activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) in Vietnam and the Outstanding Volunteers Award. This is is the first time the awards will be presented in Vietnam to honour 10 organisations and 10 individuals that have made outstanding contributions in the fields of health, education, environmental protection, gender equality, disaster prevention and management, maternal health and nutrition, and care for the disabled and disadvantaged.
* The Youth Federation and the Young Entrepreneurs Association in the northern province of Hai Duong held a ceremony yesterday to mark the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam Youth Federation (October 15) and Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day (October 13). On the occasion, the organisations presented 12 social houses worth a total of VND 360 million and 12 saving books worth VND 60 million to needy households in Hai Duong.
* Nearly 100 members of the Young Doctors Club and the Youth Union of the Hue College of Medicine and Pharmacy also provided free health check-ups and medicine for nearly 500 poor patients in Quang Tho commune, Quang Dien district, Thua Thien - Hue province.
