The ASEAN Heads of Statistical Offices Meeting (AHSOM) was opened on Wednesday in Hanoi with the participation of chiefs of statistical agencies of ASEAN member countries.
The event also drew the attendance of ASEAN partners including the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), EUROSTAT, and national statistics offices of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
AHSOM 11 was held after ASEAN leaders approved in October the ASEAN Framework of Cooperation in Statistics (AFCS) 2010-2015 which creates an important foundation for the building of an ASEAN statistics community.
Mr. Do Thuc, Acting Director-General of the General Statistics Office, said that in the coming time, statistic information will center on calculating and supervising impacts of integration and cooperation in all fields.
In two days of discussion, AHSOM 11 will focus on specific cooperation programs among these offices towards the establishment of an ASEAN Community Statistical System by 2015.
In addition, cooperation mechanisms and commitments to information sharing within ASEAN will be also put on the table for discussion.
