Leaders of Soisie-le-Roi City and author are exchanging their views on the picture
Hanoi City will present Soisi-le-Roi City in France a picture made from pottery, “Friendship of three pottery cities”. This is among important cultural events to celebrate the 40 th year of the Paris Peace Accord, which was signed in 1973, to be held in March 2013.
A plan to present this picture has been announced by Deputy-Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc to Deputy Mayor of Soisie-le-Roi in a working session to discuss various commemorating activities in 2013.
Located in the southern suburb of Paris, Soisie-le-Roi keeps various memories and historical vestige items relating to Vietnam. Previously, Fernand Dupuis, the city’s Mayor from 1959 to 1979, played an important role in five-year peace talks for Vietnam (1968-1973). Many officials from the city’s municipal administration council and party members of French Communist Party enthusiastically helped Vietnamese delegations in these tense five years. A building at the French Communist Party School was a free accommodation for Vietnamese delegations. Also, many people were sent to protect, prepare meals and help the Vietnamese delegation in these hard days.
The pottery picture will be formally hung up on a big wall at the City Hall. The picture is designed by Nguyen Thu Thuy, a Hanoi’s best citizen in 2010 and author of the Pottery Road along the Red River.
The picture features great friendship among three cities with a long-lasting tradition of pottery, including Hanoi in Vietnam, Soisie-le-Roi in France and Lugo in Italy. In the center of the picture, there are several special images, including portrait of President Ho Chi Minh taken in France in 1946, a Vietnamese delegation in peace talks in the Paris Peace Accord in 1968, the signing ceremony of the Paris Peace Accord in 1973 as well as typical cultural images on pottery making architecture and art of the three cities. Especially, three merging meandering rivers and three national flags connect all images.
According to artist Nguyen Thu Thuy, the picture is being made in Bat Trang ancient pottery village. It is expected to be completed in this September then sent to Soisie-le-Roi on the occasion of the 40 th anniversary of the Paris Peace Accord.
