Nhan Dan - About 98% of rural households will have access to electricity by 2015, according to a recently approved plan by the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).
All rural communes will be connected to the national power grid in the same year.
EVN forecasts that Vietnam’s power demand will grow at annual rate of 13% during the 2011-2015 period.
The electricity utility aims to put 20 power plants into operation in the 2011-2015 period with a combined capacity of 11,600 megawatts, and build another 14 plants between 2016 and 2020.
EVN also plans to build 318 power transmission stations in the next five years connecting 11,577 kilometres of electrical cables across the country.
