More than 3,000 people of all ages donning ao dai joined a public display at Nguyen Hue walking street on Sunday, as part of an ongoing festival honoring Vietnam’s traditional dress in Ho Chi Minh City.

Participants, all wearing the beautiful ao dai, gathered in the shape of the Vietnamese map and flag besides taking part in other activities at the promenade in District 1 in the morning.

The Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival, now in its fourth year, runs between March 3 and 17.

Young people in ao dai also joined a cycling trip from Nguyen Hue walking street to several historical attractions in the city, while kids danced in the national costumes.

The festival organizers also handed over 100 scholarships, worth a total of VND200 million (US$8,929), to needy students with excellent results.

Below are photos of the event taken by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
