Authorities in Vietnam's Central Highlands province of Dak Lak said three wild elephants have been found dead in the last 10 days.

Authorities in Vietnam's Central Highlands province of Dak Lak said three wild elephants have been found dead in the last 10 days.

On Monday some locals found the decaying carcass of a one-ton male elephant at the edge of a forest in Ea Bung Commune with its tusks and teeth missing.

Two days before that a baby elephant was found dead near Ea Sup Lake in Chu Ma Lanh Commune.

Local residents presume it may have died of poisoning after seeing some cassava fields destroyed. Cassava contains highly poisonous cyanoglucoside.

At the same place, a week earlier, another baby elephant was found dead in a stream.

The pachyderms' deaths are being investigated.
