Nhan Dan Online – The 2011 National Taekwondo Championships officially wrapped up at the Khanh Hoa provincial gymnasium yesterday after six days of competition.
The People’s Army team dominated the women’s events with two golds and one bronze medal. Binh Thuan, with two golds and one bronze, ranked second while Hanoi came in third with one gold, one silver and three bronzes.
In the men’s events, Ho Chi Minh City ranked first with five gold and four silver medals, followed by Hanoi with one gold, one silver and three bronzes, and Vinh Long with one gold, one silver and one bronze.
The tournament, held jointly by the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation and the Khanh Hoa provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, attracted nearly 300 athletes from 29 provinces and cities across the country
The martial artists competed for 25 sets of medals in four team combat events, five mixed performance events and 16 single combat events in 46 kg to over 73 kg categories for women and 54kg to over 87 kg for men.
The six-day competition aimed to select the best athletes for the national team to prepare for the upcoming 26th SEA Games in Indonesia this November.
