A project to supply 20 tons of flour salt for people in Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province to prevent tooth decay will be carried out by the World Health Organisation this November.
National statistics shows that 89.7 percent of adults suffered from tooth decay while on average each child has up to six decayed teeth.
The main reason causing tooth decay is the lack of flour salt in the drinking water resource. A survey conducted in various places throughout the country shows that the problem is even worse in the mountainous or remote areas where the water resources lack or have no flour salt and dentistry care is scarce.
As planned, after supplying flour salt to Lao Cai Province, the project will be implemented in other areas and foreign and Vietnamese experts will evaluated the effectiveness of flour salt in preventing tooth decay.
