Nearly 20 per cent of private kindergartens in Ha Noi are unlicensed, the city Department of Education and Training revealed at a seminar on Friday.

Many of them also lack facilities and fail to meet teaching standards.

There are 117 private kindergartens in the capital city.

Ha Noi Federation of Labour to fund homes

The Ha Noi Federation of Labour will subsidise 60 houses to be built for poor workers and six playgrounds for children this year.

It will provide VND25 million (US$1,200) for each house from its social fund. A sum of VND50 million ($2,380) will be given for each playground set up for children of federation members in the districts of Dan Phuong, Phuc Tho, Hoai Duc, Phu Xuyen and Soc Son.

Social bank sets $382m for student loans

The Viet Nam Bank for Social Policy has earmarked an additional VND8 trillion (US$382 million) for student loans for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This will enable lending of VND1 million ($50) a month to one million students.
