Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City receives more than 20 foreign doctors from regional counties like Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines every year to train laparoscopic surgery, according to Associate-Professor, Doctor Nguyen Tan Cuong, Head of the Liver, Gallbladder and Pancreas Department.
Mr. Cuong, who carried out the first laparoscopic surgery in Vietnam, gave the information during a conference to summarise 20 years of laparoscopic surgery held on February 22 nd in Cho Ray Hospital.
According to experts at the conference, laparoscopic surgery is a revolution in healthcare and since 1992 when doctors at Cho Ray Hospital successfully conducted the first laparoscopic surgery, Vietnam has reached a number of achievements in this area.
Vietnamese doctors and those at Cho Ray Hospital now have many experiences, good skills and knowledge of laparoscopic surgery, which could attract regional doctors to share with.
At the conference, reports also said that doctors at Cho Ray Hospital conduct laparoscopic surgery for some 3,500 patients every year.
