Nguyen Van Tien Dong and Hoang Van Doat from a rural village in Tan Tien Commune, Chuong My District, are believed to have come to a fish pond in the house of a villager to bathe as the weather was hot.
No adults were around when the boys, who did not know how to swim, went to the pond.

When some villagers saw the boys, they pulled them ashore and provided first aid but they were already dead.
Child drowning cases are reported quite frequently in Vietnam, with most of the tragedies taking place in rural areas.
