Athletes from 15 countries and territories across the region are competing at the 2nd Asian U16 basketball tournament, which opened in the central coastal Khanh Hoa province on October 18.

The 10-day event, jointly organized by the Vietnam Basketball Federation and the Khanh Hoa provincial Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism, will select the best two teams to represent Asian countries at the World U17 Basketball Championship, to be held in Lithuania next year.
It aims to create an opportunity for junior basketball players to improve their skills and gain valuable experiences.
Teams are divided into groups and will compete in three rounds and 57 matches. Host country Vietnam initially faces the Philippines and Indonesia in group D.
The four groups are: Group A - China, India, Malaysia and Taiwan (China); Group B - the Republic of Korea, Uzbekistan, Iraq and Lebanon; Group C - Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Japan; and Group D - the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam.
In the opening match, Vietnam lost 75-61 to Indonesia. It will face the Philippines on October 20./.
