11th National Women’s Congress concludes

Party and State leaders and members of the Vietnam Women’s Union Central Committee

Using the theme of ‘Solidarity, Creativity, Integration, Development’, the delegates approved eight major targets for the next five years.

The congress also elected a 163-member Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) led by a Presidium of 32 members for the 2012-2017 tenure. Truong Thi Thanh Hoa has been re-elected as president of the VWU.

Addressing the ceremony, President Hoa expressed appreciation to Party and State leaders, central agencies and international friends for contributing to the Congress’ success. She also called for women from all walks of life, both at home and abroad, to elevate their patriotism and strengthen solidarity in a joint effort to successfully implement Resolutions of the 11th National Party Congress and the 11th National Women’s Congress, as well as further contribute to national construction and defence efforts.

After the ceremony, President Hoa chaired a press conference at which she reported on the Congress and discussed issues relating to gender equality and women’s empowerment. President Hoa stated that over the next five years the VWU will continue to improve the quality of its information dissemination, education and communication, boost the VWU leaders effectiveness and improve resource mobilisation between the VWU and other agencies.

The closing ceremony was attended by State President Truong Tan Sang, Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Sinh Hung, NA Deputy Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan, members of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Secretary of the PCC and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Ha Thi Khiet, Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam, former Party and State leaders together with veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese heroic mothers and representatives from ministries and sectors.
