Tien Minh wins first game in Singapore

Nhan Dan Online – Top Vietnamese shuttler Nguyen Tien Minh got off to a great start on Wednesday, June 20, beating Eric Pang of Holland 2-0 in the first round of the men’s singles event at the 2012 Li Ning Singapore Open Super Series tournament.

Sixth seeded Tien Minh entered the match with great determination, quickly winning two straight sets (21-15, 21-18) against his Dutch rival in just 34 minutes to surge into the next round.

In his second game today, Minh will face Indian Ajay Jayaram, who overwhelmed France's Brice Leverdez 2-0 yesterday.

The Singapore Open 2012, which is taking place in Singapore from June 19 to 24, is part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super Series, with total cash prizes of US$200,000.

The tournament is the final test for Vietnamese Olympian Tien Minh before he competes in the 2012 Olympic Games in London next month.
