U17 Air Defence – Air Force topped the men’s event, followed by the team from Hanoi’s Chu Van An High School. Bronze medals went to the teams from Tan Binh district in Ho Chi Minh City and the Can Tho Gifted Sports School.
In the women’s event, the team from Ho Chi Minh City’s Phan Dinh Phung Sports Centre won the gold medal and the silver medal went to Soc Trang. Hosts Phan Chau Trinh High School and the team from Binh Thuan provincial Gifted Sports School shared the bronze.
The organisers also presented scholarships worth VND5 million (US$240) each to the five best players in the tournament that also recorded good academic performance in the last school year.
The final stage of this year’s competition drew the participation of the top 15 men’s and women’s teams determined in the northern, central and southern region qualifying rounds.
The annual tournament, co-organised by the Vietnam Basketball Federation, Young Pioneers Newspaper and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, aims to promote and develop the sport of basketball among young people across the country.
