At least 11 people were injured in a bomb blast that hit a gold shop on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District Thursday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said before the bombing that took place at 11:00am, a young man arrived at Hoang Tin gold shop on motorcycle and then threatened to attack a staff with the intent robbing jewelries.
But she shouted for help from those around. Fear being arrested, the man threw a plastic bag at the scene and then fled away.
A moment later, the bomb inside the bag went off, sending glass and debris hurling into the street.
Many people were reportedly injured in the explosion including a truck driver, bystanders, and a group of employees from a shop nearby, who allegedly rushed to the scene to help the victim.
A motorbike near the scene caught fire and many parked motorcycles in the vicinity were also damaged.
All of the injured were taken to local medical stations and Saint Paul hospital for emergency care.
In the meantime, some local residents tried to chase after the suspected robber and held him.
The suspect was later identified as Ta Van Thanh, 25, hailing from Yen Dung district in the northern province of Bac Giang.
Investigations are underway.
