Nguyen Huu Tin, deputy chairman of the People’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City, held a meeting with related departments and units on Monday to discuss construction of the metro routes within the city.

At the meeting, Mr. Tin asked all concerned districts to step up and complete all site clearance works and dispense with compensation packages at the earliest so that construction of metro routes 1 and 2 can go ahead unhindered.

According to the HCMC Management Authority for the Urban Railways, preparatory work has been completed for the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route that is scheduled to begin construction on August 28.

Relevant sides have also tried to complete compensation and site clearance tasks to build the second metro route from An Suong Crossroads-Thu Thiem, once the first metro route is started.

The second metro route will begin at Thu Thiem in District 2 and end at Tay Ninh Bus Station, covering 19 kilometers.

Construction of this route will take place in two phases, with the first phase covering more than 12 kilometers.
