At the opening ceremony, Colonel Vu Van Nghiep, Principal of the Commando Officer School, highlighted traditions and glorious achievements of the unit over 45 years of building, fighting and developing. On July 20th, 1967, the Commando Officer Continuation School (now the Commando Officer School) was set up to train warrant officers to meet the fighting demand in battlefields. In the context of new circumstances, on February 12th, 1974, the School was upgraded to the Commando Officer School.
Between 1967 and 1975, the School trained tens of thousands of cadres and sent them to font-lines during the Vietnam War, making great contributions to the national reunification and independence.
Since 1997, the unit has continued to educate thousands of cadets for the Commando Corps and the whole army, as well as hundreds of foreign troops from Laos, Cambodia and other nations.
Especially, 100 per cent of the unit’s lecturers, with bachelor and post-graduate degrees, attain their professionalism.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, on behalf of the leaders of the General Department of Politics, Lieutenant-General Mai Quang Phan emphasized that the noble First-class Feat-of-Arms Order is seen as an acknowledgement by the Party and State, and also a deserving reward for successes of the School’s cadres, lecturers and troops over the past years. In the time to come, the unit should continue to grasp thoroughly the Party’s 4th Central Resolution, accelerate the movement “Learning and following President Ho Chi Minh's moral example”, and improve teaching and learning quality to build up a strong Commando Arm.
