HCM City’s economy grows 8.1% in first half

VGP – Ho Chi Minh City’s economy expanded 8.1% in the first half of 2012, signaling a positive recovery, statistics shows.

The highest growth was seen in the service sector with the growth rate of 8.7%, followed by industry and construction 7.1% and agriculture 4.9%.

Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan said the city expects to gain the GDP growth of over 11% in the second half of this year to realize the whole-year target of 10%.

To this end, the city will focus on removing difficulties facing with enterprises, timely providing loan assistance to firms, especially producers of export items, labor-intensive small and medium enterprises and those operating in the supporting industry.
