Vietnam targets over 1.3 mln tonnes of sugar
Vietnam’s sugar output is expected to reach 1.31 million tonnes in the 2011-12 crop, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
By the end of April this year, sugar mills across the country produced 1.12 million tonnes of sugar, an increase of 78,700 tonnes from the same period last year.
The domestic market is now seeing an increase in sugar demand from China, raising sugar price by VND200-500 per kilograme in the central and southern regions.
However, in the North, the price remains stable at VND16,500–16,700 per kilogramme.
