Addressing the meeting, President of the HVUS Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong praised the achievements that Vietnam and the US have gained during the past 17 years of normalized diplomatic relations.
The US is currently one of the 10 biggest investors in Vietnam with a total investment of US$11,65 billion and two-way trade last year hitting US$ 21.45 billion, up 19 percent against 2011.
Earlier this year, the US launched an education and training program to support disabled and ethnic minority children in the Central Highlands.
The number of Vietnamese people and students working and studying at US universities and colleges has increased annually, actively contributing to the US’s development and strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
On the occasion, the World Wide Orphan Foundation in Vietnam donated VND2.4 billion (US$115,000) to the Tam Binh Orphan Education Centre. US charitable organizations and the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City also presented 50 wheelchairs, four computers and one house of compassion to war veterans and the HCM City Child Welfare Foundation.
