Safety, security of prime importance in nuclear power plants

A conference on information, communication and development of nuclear energy was held in Hanoi on August 2.

According to Mr. Pham Quang Trung, deputy head of the Atomic Energy Agency, from now on Russia’s Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation will take responsibility for training human resources for Vietnam’s nuclear power plants.

Vietnam had sent 99 students to Russia in 2009 and 2011 and this year 70 more students have been sent.

In addition, international organizations from Hungary and Japan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have also supported universities in Vietnam such as the Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi universities of Natural Sciences; Hanoi Polytechnic University; Electric Power University; Da Lat University and Nuclear Training Center at the Vietnam Nuclear Power Institute, for training of human resources in nuclear power.

About 30 countries throughout the world use nuclear power for their energy needs, which comprises of 17 percent of the world's total power supply. Safety and security are of utmost importance in operating nuclear power plants. The government must therefore select the most modern and advanced technology in building the first nuclear power plant in the country, said Le Dinh Tien, deputy minister of Science and Technology.
