USAID helps Vietnam to lower emissions

The General Department of Forestry at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has started a project on ‘Lowering Emissions in Asia ’s Forests’ (LEAF), funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The 3.6 million USD project, which incorporates six countries, is scheduled to be completed by 2015.

Funding for the project will come from Lam Dong and Nghe An provinces, the Netherlands Development Agency and the organisations Winrock International and Climate Focus.

The project will encourage lower greenhouse gas emissions, more value placed on the ecosystem and better management of carbon credits.-VNA
