Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has paid working visits to three Baltic States: Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
During the visits from June 26 to July 3, Deputy FM Son held talks and
met with leaders of the three countries’ foreign and economic
ministries and friendly parliamentarians’ groups with Vietnam .
The Baltic States highlighted Vietnam’s achievements after 26
years of renewal and the country’s rising position in the world.
They agreed to bolster cooperation with Vietnam in international
organisations and forums, especially within the framework of the UN and
the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).
The three countries
shared the same view with Vietnam in the settlement of disputes
through peaceful means based on international laws, particularly the
1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
They also
agreed to increase the exchange of high-ranking delegations with
Vietnam to create an impetus in economics, trade, education-training,
marine transport, information technology and labour.
Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania voiced their support on the early
negotiation and signing of an agreement on visa exemptions for
Vietnamese diplomatic passport holders.
The three
countries also emphasised the necessity to negotiate with Vietnam
agreements on economic, double taxation avoidance, tourism, education
and training cooperation.-VNA
