Students to make documentary films for competition

HA NOI — Sink or Swim will be the theme of the Southeast Asian Student Documentary (SEADocs) film competition for students aged 18-28.

SEADocs was launched in Ha Noi by the Goethe Institute to encourage young documentary filmmakers in Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam to look at pressing social and environmental issues.

Filmmakers are encouraged to send idea outlines and a motivational essay to organisers by July 27. Those selected will be given US$500 to make a 10-minute documentary based on their submissions.

The three regional winners would be selected by an international jury and receive a cash prize of $500 each, plus the first place winner will receive a grant of up to $5,000 to produce a feature length documentary next year.-VNS
